Treating You Like Family

Our Goal is to provide exceptional primary eye care and quality optical materials with a friendly, caring, and knowledgeable staff. We have an on-site optical laboratory with the latest in equipment to not only fabricate your glasses, but to maintain and repair them should they become broken or damaged. Our highly qualified opticians and staff are able to adjust and fit your glasses to you for extended comfort and vision. We encourage you to ask any questions about any aspect of your eye care at Palatine Vision Center. We care about the health of your eyes.

Comprehensive Eye Exams

In a professional comprehensive eye exam we take a careful look at your eyes to precisely measure vision and eye health. The purpose of the exam is to check for vision problems or any signs of eye diseases, which you may not even notice.

The actual evaluation will last from 30 to 60 minutes and is painless. As we assess your eyes, we check your side vision, your eye movements, and the muscles around your eyes. We also assess your Refraction, which is the ability to focus light into your eyes, giving clear vision. Each test helps us to detect problems such as Glaucoma, Cataracts, corneal disease,
detached retina, or signs of neurological disorders.

At the end of the exam, we will discuss the results of your tests and if needed, prescribe lenses, medications, or other treatment options to preserve and enhance your vision and eye health.

Contact Lenses

Palatine Vision Center provides many benefits and services you may not find elsewhere, including:

Contact lenses are classified as a prescription medical device by the FDA, and therefore need to be monitored yearly. Misuse of contact lenses can lead to scarring, corneal ulcers, neovascularization, and/or permanent vision loss. Many of these problems have no symptoms until they become serious. Yearly check-ups aid in early detection and prevention of these problems.

Additional testing is necessary for all who wear contact lenses. These tests are done to ensure your contact lenses are fitting properly, your eyes are healthy, and you are seeing as well as possible. First, a corneal topography test may be administered, which can detect undesirable changes of the cornea such as corneal distortion from overuse of contact lenses and keratoconus (a steepening of the cornea). A second test uses a specialized microscope to examine the fit of contact lenses, and also detects changes of the cornea. Thirdly, prescription measurements are done, which are different from prescription measurements for glasses. All contact lenses fit differently, so it is important to be fit and monitored by your optometrist yearly.

Insurance Policies

We take assignment for Blue Cross Blue Shield, First Health, Humana, Medicare, PHCS, Tricare and VSP. If we take assignment for your insurance plan, you are responsible only for applicable co-payments. When your insurance specifies a co-payment (which is usually indicated on your identification card), this payment must be made at the time of service. If you have not met your deductible, you may pay at the time of your visit or we will bill you after we receive a response from your insurance company. We cannot accept responsibility for negotiating claims with insurance companies. You are responsible for payment of your medical care within a reasonable time, regardless of the status of a claim. Payment for services not covered by your insurance are your responsibility.

Payment is expected at the time of service for all procedures unless prior arrangements have been made. Services covered by an insurance company with which we have a participating agreement will be billed to the insurance company first.

Please bring your insurance information with you. We will need copies of your insurance cards (both medical and vision) every year for our records. If you have any questions regarding Medicare and insurance policies, please do not hesitate to ask. We will do our best to assist you.

Please check your insurance handbook or check with your insurance company before scheduling an appointment to be sure you will be seeing a participating provider. Some plans require you to obtain authorization for services from your primary care provider (family practitioner, pediatrician, etc.). It is your responsibility to obtain this authorization before you visit our office. Failure to obtain a valid referral form will result in the patient being financially responsible for any charges incurred.
