A comprehensive eye exam is about more than determining whether you need glasses or contact lenses. It provides a complete evaluation of your vision and overall eye health and can help detect eye disease and other problems before you notice symptoms.
During a comprehensive eye exam at Palatine Vision Center, your doctor will carefully evaluate the health of your eyes and how well you see. A comprehensive eye exam is an important part of protecting your long-term vision and eye health. Eye Health Evaluation - Your doctor will examine the external and internal structures of your eyes, including the eyelids, eyelashes, pupils, iris, retina and optic nerve, looking for signs of eye disease or other concerns.
Vision Testing - Your vision is carefully measured at different distances to determine the best prescription for your glasses and/or contact lenses. Your doctor will evaluate how your eyes work including the focusing ability, eye teaming and eye movements.
Eye Pressure and Glaucoma Testing - Your eye pressure will be measured as part of your evaluation for glaucoma and other eye health conditions.
Retinal and Optic Nerve Evaluation - Your doctor will examine your retina and optic nerve for signs of conditions that can affect your vision and eye health.
At Palatine Vision Center, we take the time to thoroughly evaluate your vision and eye health. We answer your questions and help you understand your eye health, so you can see your best for years to come.

Even though you visit a separate office for your eye health, that doesn’t mean your eyes shouldn’t be treated holistically. Your eye doctor will discuss your overall health and that of your immediate family, any medications you’re taking, and whether you have high blood pressure or diabetes. They’ll also want to know if you smoke and how much sun exposure you get. All these factors help the eye doctor properly assess your eye health.
The American Optometric Association recommends an eye exam annually. Your eye doctor may recommend more frequent exams based on your individual needs.
